Britten ( War Requiem )

War Requiem Dies Irae

The bombing raid nicknamed "Operation Moonlight Sonata" in November of 1940 by the Germans in World War Two destroyed a cathedral that stood in Coventry, England since the Middle Ages. As a celebration of the cathedral being rebuilt, Benjamin Britten, England's most influential and celebrated composer, and as a leader of 20th century music, was commissioned to write a piece of music commemorating the occasion.
